Sognefjord area
The Sognefjord is Norway's longest and deepest fjord and it is a paradise to explore for any outdoor and nature enthusiast. The fjord is set against a fantastic scenery of high mountains reflecting on the deep waters and here you will find a wide network of hiking routes, spectacular viewpoints, small cute villages and heritage sites. Explore the stunning UNESCO listed Nærøyfjord on a kayaking tour, take the historic Flåm railway and cycle down the spectacular Navvies Road Rallarvegen and explore the bare Auerlandsdalen and traditional Laerdal area.
Nordfjord, Loen and Lodalen Valley
The authentic Nordfjord area is characterized by small villages lining an idyllic green mountain scenery along the deep calm waters of the fjord. The small town of Loen lies at the end of the Nordfjord and is the adventure hub in the area. Take a ride up the spectacular Loen skylift, lifting you over 1,000m above the fjord to enjoy the fantastic views over the Nordfjord and the Lovatnet Lake. Different hiking routes embark through stunning scenery from Loen or around the Lodalen valley and you can also take a thrilling ride on the zipline taking you over the valley!
Driving towards the coast, you will meet a more remote, but not less stunning scenery with small villages and a raw mountain scenery lined by high cliffs, deep valleys and beautiful island views scattered along the tranquil waters of the Nordfjord.
Geirangerfjord, Trollstigen and Romsdalen
The beautiful Geirangerfjord is one of the few UNESCO listed fjords in Norway. The fjord can become busy with cruises over the summer months flogging the waters and shores, but nevertheless the high mountain scenery surrounding the green waters of the fjord, the small abandoned historic settlements along the mountain flanks and the idyllic town of Geiraanger make the area well worth a visit.
The iconic serpentine Trollstigen road is a masterpiece of engineering in the midst of the majestic landscape of the Norwegian fjords. The Trollstigen reaches 852m at its highest point and is surrounded by fantastic scenery with mighty mountains and deep valleys. You can also explore the stunning landscape to its fullest by experiencing parts of Trollstigen by foot on some of the restored hiking paths.
Stop at the Romsdalen Valley for some spectacular hiking in high mountain scenery overlooking fjords, sea and valleys. The hike up to Romstrekken, 537m above sea level, rewards you with fantastic 360 degrees view over the valley and the town of Åndalsnes.
