Mount Etna Adventures - Hiking and Exploring Alcantara
Dominating the Eastern side of Sicily, Mount Etna is Europe's largest volcano with several vast craters and a height of 3,300m. Etna is also one of the world's most active volcanoes and it offers breath-taking views and great hiking over lava fields, through lush forests and deep valleys with beautiful volcanic scenery and rock formations.
Venture off the smoking slopes of Etna on a guided hiking tour taking you to some of the most spectacular craters, viewpoints and the latest eruption points. Further you will set off to discover the area around the Alcantara River, one of the few rivers on Sicily that runs all year round and which has carved its path into the basalt over a period of several thousands of years. Enjoy a few hours of canyoning along the gorge, jumping off the rocks into the cold, crystal-clear waters and floating in the river's rapids between the 24m high basalt walls.
The ancient City of Taormina
Taormina has been a popular tourist destination since the 19th century and you will have plenty of time to discover the cobbled historic alleys and to soak up the buzzing atmosphere of the clifftop town. Visit the ancient Greek theatre and set off to the beach and the beautiful bay around the Isola Bella before watching the world go by in the many cafes, bars and restaurants along the busy town square.
Adventures on the Aeolian Islands - visit Stromboli, Lipari and Vulcano
The Aeolian Islands off the Northern coast of Sicily are a wonderful gem to explore if you are looking for a getaway in stunning scenery surrounded by active volcanoes and deep blue sea. You will be based on the island of Vulcano from where you will venture off and explore the neighbouring islands of Vulcano and Stromboli. Enjoy the beautiful landscape and fantastic views over the sea on boat and hiking tours, snorkel in the crystal clear waters around the Aeolian Islands, swim in the warm waters on Vulcano Island and witness one of the frequent and regular mini-eruptions on Mount Stromboli and watch the lava flow along the hillside. An unforgetable adventure you will remember for a lifetime.
Sicilian Lifestyle, Gastronomy and History
Thanks to it's blend of cultures, Sicilian cuisine combines traditional Italian flavours with Greek and Arabic ingredients, giving Sicilian gastronomy it's own original twist. You will have plenty of opportunity to indulge in Sicilian gastronomy with all it's delights during your stay.
Sicily also has an ancient winemaking culture and you will get to taste some of the high quality wines at an exclusive wine tasting on Mount Etna.
